The Archie Comics characters celebrate their 85th anniversary in 2026. Since debuting in 1941’s Pep Comics #22, the Riverdale gang of perpetual teenagers have had serious longevity. Much of it can be attributed to their malleability, with their ability to shift genres, take advantage of pop culture and trends, while establishing fan-favourite character motifs such as Jughead’s bottomless stomach or the classic love-triangle. However, 2026 sees big changes for the characters with the partnership with publisher Oni Press.

Starting in September 2026, Oni Press will publish a line of comics based on the Archie Comics characters. The partnership sees Oni Press as the new home of monthly comics and collected editions, licensing the entire 85 years of back catalogue.

Find out everything you need to know about the Oni Press Archie comics line. This guide details the comics that will be published and how the partnership works.

Updating…

Oni Press announced its partnership with Archie Comics quite far in advance. As a result, many details have not been revealed, and we likely won’t hear much else about it until San Diego Comic-Con 2026 in late July.

This guide will be updated when Oni Press share more details about the comics and partnership. I will continue to update it beyond the initial launch, adding new comics and details when they’re announced.

Partnership

The writing was on the wall that Archie Comics may license out their characters or catalogue to another publisher. Their output over the past 12 months had been minimal to the point where you could count the number of books published per month on one hand.

Partnering with Oni Press gives the characters and classic material a new lease on life. More resources can be put behind these comics, which allows for greater exposure to reach new readers.

It looks like the Archie characters are in safe hands with Oni Press. I have read many Oni Press press releases and heard members of the editorial team on podcasts, and they’re very passionate about what they do. Similar to the publisher’s EC Comics revival, they’re approaching the Archie comics with an understanding of their DNA, while making them contemporary to today. Oni Press editor-in-chief Sierra Hahn had this today about their approach:

“Behind the scenes, for the better part of a year, we’ve been challenging ourselves to re-conceptualize a Riverdale that’s at once informed by all eras of Archie’s past, while also defining an utterly unique path into the future. With this new line, we’re hoping to forge an All-Star Superman moment for Archie’s brilliant constellation of characters – whether it’s W. Maxwell Prince, Fábio Moon and Nick Cagnetti on ARCHIE, Corinna Bechko and Kano on SABRINA, or Patrick Horvath and Tyler Crook on their own HELL of a title, rest assured: You’ve never read an Archie comic quite like these before.”

Archie fans can also be take comfort in knowing that Archie Comics Senior Director of Editorial Jamie Rotante and Editor & Art Director Vincent Lovallo will also be involved.

Comics

Take a look below at all the comics that have been announced so far.

Ongoing comics

Below are the comics that have been revealed so far as part of the partnership.

Archie

Written by Ben H. Winters. Art by Fábio Moon.

Archie is the flagship series, focusing on 17-year-old Archie Andrews, his friends, and the citizens of Riverdale. The Riverdale gang will explore the towns, part, present, and future through a local film festival that will turn everything upside down. At the same time, there will be a paradox that only Jughead Jones can solve.

In a tradition stemming from Classic Archie, this series will also include character pin-ups, puzzles, and bonus stories.

W. Maxwell Prince (Ice Cream Man) was originally announced to be the writer on this series. However, that is no longer the case, with scheduling issues meaning that he could no longer write the series.

Archie (2026 series) #1 will be available in September.

What happens to Archie Comics?

This partnership doesn’t mean the end of Archie Comics as a publisher.

Archie Comics will continue to publish “Classic Archie” stories. This includes one-shots drawn in the classic house-style, the occasional digest, and facsimile editions of classic material. They’ll also continue to publish the Bite Sized Archie humour strip by Ron Cacace and Vincent Lovallo.
