Keanu Reeves has had a long and varied career. He’s been featured in Hollywood films, television, animation, and even video games. Another medium he can put on his resume is comics. In 2021 – in conjunction with publisher Boom Studios, writer Matt Kindt, and artist Ron Garney – he launched BRZRKR. It became the largest funded comic on Kickstarter and has been a huge success. It is so successful that Netflix has already greenlit a movie and animated series.

BRZRKR is a tale of violence and sacrifice. B is an immortal man, who has been walking the earth for 80,000 years. That time has been an almost endless battle that has risked his own sanity in the process. All he wants now is for it to end. Luckily for him, the U.S. Government believes they have a solution. All he needs to do is fight the battles that are too dangerous for any mortal.

Are you interested in reading BRZRKR? This guide will get you started, highlighting the best place to start reading, among other helpful details. Soon you’ll be able to dive into B’s bloody battles and enjoy this tale from the mind of Keanu Reeves.

In what capacity is Keanu Reeves involved?

I’m not in the room to see the creative process. However, based on interviews, it appears to be a collaborative process. Clearly, BRZRKR is something that Keanu Reeves is passionate about and is invested in. While he might not be directly on the tools, he’s coming up with ideas and discussing them with his artistic collaborators. There are even times when he leans on his acting talents to act out scenes to inform artist Ron Garney what they should look like.

At the same time, Reeves is the face of the comic – literally and figuratively. The main character, B, is modelled on the actor’s appearance. You can see it throughout the imagery in this guide. He’s also the hype man for the comic, appearing in interviews and San Diego Comic-Con panels to promote it and its future adaptations.

Where to start reading BRZRKR

The best place to start reading BRZRKR is the beginning of the original 12-issue series. Yes, there are comic stories set chronologically earlier. However, it’s best to begin with BRZRKR #1 as it gives readers a proper introduction to B and sets up his origin in the first four issues, with the remaining eight issues set primarily in the present day.

BRZRKR Volume 1 is a good way to read BRZRKR #1, with the first four issues collected inside. Alternatively, if you don’t want to gamble on buying volume 1 blind, you could track down the first issue to sample the series. The first issue had a massive print run, meaning there are many affordable copies available on eBay or at comic book shops. It’s also available digitally.

If BRZRKR Volume 1 ends up being your jam, there are two additional volumes collecting the rest of the original series. Additionally, there are several spin-off one-shots to be explored as well. Discover more details about all of them in the reading order section below.
