In 2004, Marvel Comics published the transformative Avengers: Disassembled. The storyline surprised many readers at the time, leading to unexpected new team members and catapulting the comics to the top of the charts under the pen of Brian Michael Bendis. In 2026, Marvel is promising something similar with Avengers: Armageddon, a comic book event that will shake the Marvel Universe to its core.
As the Marvel marketing proclaims, “there will be a pre-Armageddon Marvel Universe and a post-Armageddon Marvel Universe”. It all begins with Red Hulk taking over Latveria, Doctor Doom’s homeland, escalating into a situation that will unleash a power that will forever alter the world’s perception of the Avengers. The Marvel Universe may never be the same again.
Discover how this all unfolds in Avengers: Armageddon reading order. This checklist guides you through everything to read in this Marvel event, along with background reading and comics that lead up to it.
Happy reading!

Background reading
Do you need to catch up what’s been happening in the Marvel Universe? Here are some recent stories that help build up to Avengers: Armageddon that you might want to read.
One World Under Doom
Written by Ryan North. Art by R. B. Silva.
Doctor Doom will play a role in the pages of Captain America (2025 series) during Avengers: Armageddon. The last time readers saw him was in the One World Under Doom event.
Red Hulk (2025 series) #1-10
Written by Benjamin Percy. Art by Geoff Shaw.
Want to know what Red Hulk has been up to recently? He played a role in One World Under Doom, the previous Marvel event, where his series was one of the bigger tie-ins. Check out the One World Under Doom reading order to see how these issues tie into the larger story.
Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #1-5
Written by Deniz Camp and Cody Ziglar. Art by Jonas Scharf.
In Marvel’s latest incarnation of the Ultimate Universe, origin boxes are powerful artefacts that grant superpowers to those who open them. Miles Morales brings origin boxes back to the regular Marvel Universe in the conclusion of Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion. It’s worth noting that an origin box will play a major role in Avengers: Armageddon. As a result, you might want to check out this miniseries if you’re not familiar with the Ultimate Universe.
Captain America (2025 series) #1-5
Written by Chip Zdarsky. Art by Valerio Schiti.
Captain America (2025 series) #1-5 is not an essential read for Avengers: Armageddon. It’s a flashback story explores the time period shortly after Captain America defrosted from the ice – adjusted for Marvel’s sliding timescale. Check it out if you’re interested how Chip Zdarsky writes Captain America or if you’ve read the later issues and want to fill in the gaps.
