Doctor Doom became the Marvel Universe’s Sorcerer Supreme at the end of the Blood Hunt comic book event. However, he then disappeared to his kingdom and Latveria for six months, with barely a peep from him. That’s until now, with Doom appearing again to declare that he’s the “Emperor of the World”.

How will Marvel’s heroes react to that? You can find out with the help of this One World Under Doom reading order guide. It highlights what to read, how this big story is structured, and more information to make reading easy.

Is One World Under Doom an event? How is it structured?

One World Under Doom is not strictly a comic book event. Instead, it’s a banner for dozens of stories that react to the current status quo of Doctor Doom as the Sorcerer Supreme and his claim as the Emperor of the World. Some of the core events will be felt in the One World Under Doom miniseries and Fantastic Four. However, heaps of other comics will deal with and explore the ripples of these changes in their own corners of the Marvel Universe.

It’s a lot like 2008-2009’s Dark Reign. In that, Norman Osborn took control through his equivalent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and did things heroes didn’t approve of to solidify and keep that power. While big moments played out in Avengers-related titles, other comics felt the ramifications in various stories. Readers could choose how they wanted to read Dark Reign, with them focusing on the titles they were interested in. But it was one of those things where the more you read, the more you saw the tapestry of the Marvel Universe at that time.

Do I need to read everything?

Nope. As mentioned in the previous section, One World Under Doom is a banner for a status quo in the Marvel Universe. As a result, you can read the corners that interest you the most, whether that be the One World Under Doom miniseries or the titles that feature your favourite characters.

Similar to Dark Reign, you’ll get a better sense of what’s happening at this point in time in the Marvel Universe if you read more comics. However, there’s no need to read everything. As a result, it’s best to read to your enjoyment levels, interest, and budget.

Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment
Written by Roger Stern. Art by Mike Mignola.

Doctor Doom has attempted to become the Sorcerer Supreme before. This 1989 graphic novel is a good crash course into Doom’s motivations, his character, and his relationship to magic. It’s a story I highly recommend – even if you’re not all that interested in One World Under Doom.

After One World Under Doom

It’s too early to know what Marvel will do after the completion of One World Under Doom. With the storyline running through a good chunk of the year, it’s likely that whatever it is will not begin publishing until approximately October 2025. As a result, don’t expect any announcement until San Deigo Comic Con 2025, which runs 24th-27th July.

This section will be updated when more details are known.
