DC Comics has been in operation for over 85 years. That’s a lot of comics! The publisher has done many things to ensure readers can dive into that history. However, it has been a patchy effort, especially in print, with large chunks long out-of-print or never reprinted at all. The DC Finest reprint line changes that, with the goal of (eventually) collecting all of DC’s extensive publishing history.

Discover everything you need to know about DC Finest. This guide will dive into how this reprint line operates and which collections are available and upcoming. With it, you’ll be able to dive into DC’s deep back catalogue and experience some of the greatest stories and plenty of curiosities.

What is DC Finest?

DC Finest is a reprint line that takes a character, team, series, or genre-based anthology from DC’s publishing history and collects them in chunky volumes. Each book is approximately 600 pages – collecting 25 issues or more in most cases – making it perfect for binge-readers or those who want to read everything.

It’s worth noting that DC will not publish these in chronological order. Like Marvel’s equivalent collections, each volume of DC Finest will bounce around to different eras, eventually filling in the gaps over time. At least initially, the line will focus on material of interest that hasn’t been reprinted endlessly. (As a result, you might not see The Death of Superman as part of the line anytime soon.) There also seems to be a focus on popular characters, those likely to appear in other media soon, and a few interesting oddities.

As DC explains, “Character-focused collections will spotlight multiple iterations of fan-favorite DC Super Heroes throughout the decades; for example, a “Robin” collection may include volumes featuring Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, or Jason Todd, depending on chronology, while a “Green Lantern” collection may include classic stories featuring Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Alan Scott, or other fan-favorite ring slingers.” As a result, the publisher is dedicated to collecting as much as possible, no matter who the character is.

Publishing frequency

Using the release dates for books already released/announced, characters will get new books approximately every 6 months. However, it’s unclear if that will be just for popular characters such as Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman (and those potentially appearing on the big screen soon) or if that will be across the board. I guess we’ll see.

Where can I find DC Finest volumes?

DC Finest volumes can be found at all good comic book shops, bookstores, online retailers, eBay, and Amazon. It’s worth noting that they’re currently not available digitally.

Will there be more DC Finest volumes?

Yes! DC Comics is just getting started with this reprint line, which, in theory, could run for decades. (There’s that much material available!) As of writing this, the publisher has announced collections up to January 2026. However, more will be revealed or beyond that, which will likely see additional volumes for characters and introduce the line to additional characters.

Many characters haven’t received DC Finest volumes yet. Martian Manhunter, Captain Marvel, Zatanna, Booster Gold, Atom, Robin, Nightwing, Black Lightning, and Birds of Prey are some that spring to mind. But plenty of others could get the DC Finest treatment. These characters will likely get collections later down the line. DC Comics could be waiting to complete shorter character runs first before introducing another character into the line. For instance, there is not that much Metamorpho material. I could see that being completed in two or three volumes, freeing up the publishing calendar for another character.

DC Comics is interested in collecting the genre-based anthologies from the 1950s-80s. Genres like science fiction, war and horror have been collected so far, with much of that material reprinted for the first time. Following that, it’s reasonable that DC’s long run of romance comics wouldn’t be too far behind.

The publisher also seems to be interested in collecting material that was originally published by other companies or imprints but is owned in some way or another by DC Comics. With that in mind, it’s not out of the realm possibility that we will see more Milestone characters, material published through the Vertigo imprint (of characters owned by DC Comics), and WildStorm.

  • Please reprint further volumes of Aquaman from the 1960s’ and the complete run of the Challengers of the Unknown.

  • Dc should sell more comics digital on kindle, omnibuses and dc finest, they sell some but not all, a few more would be greatly appreciated, this is essentially a wish from a comic lover but I believe it is something many comic lovers would love to see
    Many Thanks
