X-Men: The Wedding Special #1
Written By Kieron Gillen, Tini Howard, Yoon Ha Lee, Tate Brombal, and Wyatt Kennedy. Art By Rachael Stott, Phil Sevy, Stephen Byrne, Emilio Pilliu, and Jenn St. Onge.
Marvel has published Pride anthologies similar to DC’s offering in previous years. This year they’re mixing things up with a wedding instead. X-Men: The Wedding Special highlights the wedding between Mystique and Destiny.
The mutant pair have been a couple for more than 100 years. While they refer to each other as “wife”, readers have never seen their wedding – until now. This Pride-themed one-shot explores the never-before-seen wedding.
While this isn’t the first same-sex marriage in Marvel’s publication history, Astonishing X-Men #51 from 2012 comes to mind. However, this special is the publisher’s first marriage between two women.
X-Men: The Wedding Special #1 will be published on 29th May.

What else are Marvel and DC doing for Pride Month?
The Pride Month specials are not the only things Marvel and DC are doing to celebrate. Both publishers will release character-centric Pride variant covers. You can see all of the DC Comics ones here and Marvel’s covers for their superhero and Star Wars comics too.
Beyond variant covers, DC will be releasing some Pride-centric books as well.
On 6th June, the publisher will publish DC Pride: A Celebration of Rachel Pollack. This 96-page one-shot honours the memory of Rachel Pollack, a prominent transgender writer from the 1990s – best known for following Grant Morrison’s legendary run on Doom Patrol – who passed away in 2023. The collection will include Doom Patrol #70, written by Pollack, which introduced DC Comics’ first transgender superhero, Coagula; the previously unavailable Vertigo Visions: The Geek, with art by Mike Allred; and a new Coagula story written by Joe Corallo and art by Rye Hickman.
DC Comics will also publish DC Pride: Uncovered #1 on 11th June. This art book collects Pride-themed covers that the publisher has previously published. This fantastic collection will include contributions from Jen Bartel, Phil Jimenez, Jim Lee, Joshua “Sway” Swaby, David Talaski, Babs Tarr, Kris Anka, and others.
DC also understands that Pride doesn’t have to only be celebrated in June. Last month they published Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story written by Nicole Maines, drawn by Rye Hickman, coloured by Bex Glendining, and lettered by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. This YA graphic novel tells the untold origin story of Dreamer, the first trans superhero to appear on TV.
The publisher will also release The Strange Case of Harleen and Harley on 3rd September. A preview of this YA graphic novel will be included in DC Pride 2024.
Where can I find these Pride Comics?
All of the above mentioned Pride comics and graphic novels can be found at all good comic book shops, online retailers, eBay, and Amazon/Kindle.
