Spider-Gwen was meant to be a one-off character. She was created to be part of the Spider-Verse comic book event, where she was supposed to make her impact and disappear into the multiverse again. However, Marvel caught lightning in a bottle with her first appearance. She was wildly popular and has starred in over 100 comics since 2014 and the hit animated movie Into The Spider-Verse.
Are you looking to read all the Spider-Gwen comics? Well, you’ve come to the right place. This extensive – yet simple – reading order has all the details you need to get started while making sense of the similarly titled collections, with plenty of notes.
Happy reading!
Who is Spider-Gwen?
I need to explain Gwen Stacy is before I can explain Spider-Gwen.
Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker’s girlfriend in the Main Marvel Universe. Unfortunately, she died when the Green Goblin threw her off a bridge. Spider-Man was able to catch her with his web, but the resulting whiplash killed her in the process.
Spider-Gwen is the alternate universe version of Gwen Stacy. She was bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker. Now she is Spider-Woman and fights crime like Peter Parker does in the main Marvel Universe.
You might be thinking why she’s known as Spider-Gwen when she’s known as Spider-Woman (and Ghost-Spider later) in her own comic. The name was conceived by fans, and it just stuck, especially since there was already a Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) in the main Marvel Universe.
Spider-Gwen or Ghost-Spider?
It’s worth noting that the character has gone by different names throughout her publication history. I’ve already addressed that she is known as “Spider-Woman” in her world. However, she also goes by “Ghost-Spider”.
The Ghost-Spider name came when Gwen’s stories were set in the main Marvel Universe. However, the name originated from the Marvel Rising animated series and was integrated into the comics later.
From a story perspective, the name change was justified by the existing Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) already swinging around the main Marvel Universe. Gwen chose “Ghost-Spider” when considering how many of her alternate-universe counterparts were dead.
We’ll refer to Gwen as “Spider-Gwen” throughout this guide unless except in the instances when she’s referred to as “Ghost Spider”.
Where can I find Spider-Gwen comics?
Spider-Gwen comics can be found in all good comic book shops, online retailers, eBay, Amazon/Kindle, and Marvel Unlimited.

Background reading
Do you want to know more about the main Marvel Universe’s Gwen Stacey before reading Spider Gwen? She was a regular in Amazing Spider-Man in the 1960s and early 70s, first appearing in Amazing Spider-Man (1962 series) #31 and was featured in some capacity up until she died in Amazing Spider-Man (1962 series) #122. Here are the notable issues for those who don’t want to read everything.
Amazing Spider-Man (1962 series) #31
Written by Stan Lee. Art by Steve Ditko.
This issue features the first appearance of Gwen Stacy (as well as Harry Osborn too). While it’s not essential to understanding Gwen, I highly recommend reading issues #32-33 too. They’re part of the If This Be My Destiny story arc, one of the best Spider-Man stories of all time and a classic of the era.
Amazing Spider-Man (1962 series) #121-122
Written by Gerry Conway. Art by Gil Kane.
These issues feature Gwen Stacy’s death. It’s the event that defined the character and plays into the early stories Spider-Gwen stories. Having familiarity with the story also, in my opinion, makes her meeting with the Main Universe’s Peter Parker hit harder.
