Carnage is one of the most dangerous villains in Spider-Man’s rogues’ gallery. While Peter Parker has defeated the deadly symbiote several times, Miles Morales has never encountered him – until now!

This encounter will take place in the pages of the Carnage Reigns crossover event. Readers will see Cletus Kasaday, Carnage’s murderous original host, return deadlier than ever and it will be up to Miles to save the day.

Crossovers can be confusing. It’s easy to accidentally miss an issue. This Carnage Reigns reading order has been put together to make reading simple. Not only does it list all the issues involved, but it also gives the required reading order, background reading, and other helpful details too.

Soon you’ll be able to swing into all of the action without any confusion.

Is Carnage Reigns part of the Summer of Symbiotes?

Yes, Carnage Reigns is part of Summer of Symbiotes. As I explained in the Summer of Symbiotes guide, it’s a banner for several symbiote-focused stories published by Marvel Comics in the northern hemisphere summer. It’s less of an event and, instead, several different tales that the publisher is releasing to celebrate Venom’s 35th anniversary.

Do I need to read everything?

Yes. Carnage Reigns is one of those crossover events where each comic is a specific chapter in the tale. You’ll get a complete story by reading each issue in the recommended order. See below to find out what that recommended reading order is.

Background reading

Want to do some background reading before diving into Carnage Reigns? Here are the comics I recommend reading:

Carnage (2022 series) #1-10

Written by Ram V and Alex Paknadel. Art by Francesco Manna and Roge Antonio.

Read this series if you want to get up to date with what Carnage has been up to in the lead-up to Carnage Reigns.

Ram V wrote Carnage (2022 series) #1-10 and Alex Paknadel wrote issues #11-12. Those looking to read the full story should read all 12 issues. However, if you’re short on time, Paknadel’s issues are the most immediate to Carnage Reigns.

These issues have been published in the following trade paperbacks:

  • Carnage Volume 1: In The Court Of Crimson (Collects Carnage (2022 series) #1-4 and Carnage Forever #1)
  • Carnage Volume 2: Carnage In Hell (Collects Carnage (2022 series) #5-10)

It’s not clear how Marvel will be collecting Carnage (2022 series) #11-12 yet. We’ll update this section when it becomes clearer.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2022 series) #1-5

Written by Cody Ziglar. Art by Federico Vicentini.

Read issues #1-5 of Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2022 series) if you want to catch-up on the latest adventures of Miles Morales.

These issues will be collected in Miles Morales: Spider-Man By Cody Ziglar Volume 1. This trade paperback will available on 3rd October.

Red Goblin #1-4

Written by Alex Paknadel. Art by Jan Bazaldua.

Red Goblin is a series spinning out of Carnage (2022 series) which focuses on Normie Osborne, the son of Liz Allen and Harry Osbourne, who possesses his own symbiote. Check out the first four issues if you want to know more about the character.

These issues are collected in Red Goblin Volume 1: It Runs in the Family. This trade paperback will be available on 5th September.

King In Black
Written by Donny Cates. Art by Ryan Stegman.

Want to know more about what happened to Cletus Kasady? You’ll want to read King In Black to see how his soul was trapped in Iron Man’s Extrembiote. Check out the King In Black reading order to see how to read the event.
