The Elseworld story is going through a renascence at DC Comics. These what-if style stories were a staple throughout the 90s and 2000s but lulled in prominence for much of the 2010s. However, they’re back in full force thanks to the hits such as Injustice and DCeased. One of the latest to capture readers’ attention is DC vs. Vampires.

As you can probably guess, DC vs. Vampires drops the Justice League into a world infested by vampires. Now they have to fend off a vampire invasion while figuring out who they can trust among them – anyone could secretly be a vampire.

The concept caught on with readers, with DC expanding it beyond the core series with supplemental material. This DC vs. Vampires reading order guide has been developed so you can make sense of it all and not miss out on any of the action. Read on to find out which comics you need to read, their recommended order, and more.

Is DC vs. Vampires part of the main DC Universe?

No. It’s set in its own universe where the events of the regular comics do not influence it. Due to this, the creators can do things you wouldn’t be able to do normally – such as turn heroes into vampires.

An advantage of this is that there’s no required reading to understand DC vs. Vampires.

Main series

The core of DC vs. Vampires is told in a maxiseries of the same name.

DC vs. Vampires
Written by James Tynion IV and Matthew Rosenberg. Art by Otto Schmidt.
Issues: 12

Without giving away details, DC vs. Vampires is broken into two acts. The first act (issues #1-6) introduces readers to the world, introduces characters, sets up the world, and escalates the vampiric situation. The second act (issues #7-12) is where things go from bad to worse for our heroes.

Due to its popularity, the first 6 issues DC vs. Vampires has been reprinted in special three-in-one editions. These are a great way to catch up if you can’t wait for the hardcover editions later in the year.
