It really sets the mood for the rest of the storyline and it can be very difficult to understand why Dredd is where he is and in the condition he is during Necropolis, even with a summary of the story. It’s out of print but you can get it digitally from the 2000 AD shop.

But yeah, this is probably not a good ‘first Dredd story’. I appreciate the Essential Judge Dredd line and what they’re trying to do but sometimes the stories they choose need more background or at least different supplemental stories.
