In the PS4 game Horizon Zero Dawn’s far-off future, the Earth is ruled by mechanical beasts. You play as Aloy, who goes on a quest to find out the machines’ mysterious origins and how they connect to the ruins of the ancient past. The game went on to be a hit, garnering countless fans and scoring itself a sequel for the PS5.
But before we get that sequel in 2021, fans can return to the world of the game in a brand new comic book series. Published by Titan Comics, this comic is an official sequel to the game, which is set after its conclusion.
It’s easy to be sceptical by comics based on video games. It’s sometimes the case that they don’t capture the spirit of the game or they feel a little off. This shouldn’t be a problem as the Horizon Zero Dawn comic is written by Anne Toole, who was one of the writers of the game.

Joined by artist Ann Maulina, the comic picks up after the events of the game as Talanah tries to find herself when her friend Aloy disappears. At the same time, she sets out to hunt and defeat a whole new breed of killer machines that have mysteriously appeared.
If you are a fan of the game, then this comic book sequel is a great way to get your fix while you wait for Horizon Forbidden West to hit the PS5 in 2021.
Horizon Zero Dawn #1 is available from all good comic book shops, online stores, eBay, and digitally from August 5th. If you can’t wait for issue #1, then you can check out the special Free Comic Book Day #0 issue for free.
