Pacific Rim: Uprising hits cinemas on March 23rd, but you can get your fix early with the prequel webcomic. Titled Pacific Rim: Amara, the webcomic is exclusive to Line Webtoon and published by Legendary Comics tells of the origins of one of the new characters from the upcoming movie.
Written by Cavan Scott and Zhang Ran and art by Chinese artist BigN, this series is set 2024 and follows a young girl named Amara who is thrown headfirst into this world. A trip to the beach with her family becomes a disaster when kaiju strike. Amara loses her family and the world alone – that’s if the five-year-old can survive the immediate panic that comes out of the attack.
At the moment there are three chapters available to read. Once you’ve read through these, don’t worry, a new chapter drops every Friday.
The first three chapters have a unique blend of survival-action and smaller emotional moments. The action is frantic as Amara is put in one danger after another, desperate to survive. They’re also an examination of human nature in crisis situations, looking at both the selfishness and kindness.
Pacific Rim: Amara joins a large list of webcomics on the Webtoons platform including the Korean Star Wars comic, Hello World!, UnOrdinary, and hundreds more.
If you’re a Pacific Rim fan and can’t wait for Uprising, then this webcomic is for you.
New chapters of Pacific Rim: Amara come out every Friday. To read the comic head over the Webtoons site or download the app.
