On the 28th August, 1917, 100 years ago today, Jack “The King” Kirby was born. For those who are not so familiar with who he is will certainly be familiar with many of his creations. They’re some of the biggest superheroes ever. And with simply a pencil and unlimited imagination Kirby created them and the Marvel, and other comic book universes, along with them. Through his amazing creations and art, his influence has touched countless comic book creators, as well as those outside of comics, through his signature style and continues to do so long after his death in 1994.
To celebrate Jack Kirby’s 100th birthday I have put together a collection of Kirby art that features 100 different characters that he either created or co-created with a collaborator (mostly Joe Simon or Stan Lee). From many of Marvel’s biggest superheroes, to war heroes, to dazzling sci-fi, to fantastical fantasy and massive monsters this list only scratches the surface of his imagination and artistic flair.
Kirby created hundreds of characters so I wasn’t able to get them all in this gallery, but I’ve tried to get a good spread with some of his best known as well as some more obscure ones too.
But that’s enough talking from me, get scrolling and marvel at the genius that is Jack Kirby!
Enjoy!
