Injustice Comic Book Reading Order Guide

By 9 Comments

When Injustice: Gods Among Us hit video game consoles it was a surprise hit, which introduced millions of people to a wide range of DC Comics characters. It sold millions of copies and spawned just as many devoted fans. Just like anything popular in entertainment, Injustice could not be simply contained to the video game medium and shortly after spawn more than half-a-dozen comic book spin-offs.

If you’ve played the Injustice games and want to check out the comics then the Injustice Comic Book Reading Order Guide is for you. Not only does it give the reading order for each series and how they relate to the video games, but also details the different way these comics can be read. Soon you’ll able to dive into this comic book series, which expands on the world established in the video game series.

How Are The Injustice Comics Released?

Unlike most comic books, the Injustice comics are released in a slightly unconventional manner. They start their life as short digital-first chapters that are priced at $0.99 each. From there, they are then collected into the conventional print issues, which collect two (three for Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One) chapters which originally appeared digitally first. Finally, the Injustice comics are collected into larger trade paperback collections which collect roughly six issues or twelve digital chapters.

All of the comics are the same, they are just collected in different formats. As to which one you choose it is up to how you enjoy reading your comics. If you’re brand new to the different formats then you can find out if digital or print is your preferred option or even if trade waiting is the way to go.

  • Thanks for the list, but I thought I could help you with the following reading order:

-Year One #01-02 (01-06 in digital chapters).
    -Year Three Annual (2nd story).
-Year One #03-08 (07-24 in digital chapters).
    -Year One Annual.
-Year One #09-12 (25-36 in digital chapters).
-Year Two #01-07 (01-14 in digital chapters).
    -Year Two Annual.
-Year Two #08-12 (15-24 in digital chapters).
    -Year Three Annual (1st story).
-Year Three #01-12 (01-24 in digital chapters).
-Year Four Annual (suppousedly it takes places before Year Four but also sets the events for Year Five).
-Year Four #01-12 (01-24 in digital chapters).
-Year Five #01-20 (01-40 in digital chapters) + Annual (I am not sure how the annual is set during the events of Year Five, so I put this like so).
-Ground Zero #01-12 (01-24 in digital chapters).
    -Injustice 2 #01-current.

    Hope it is Okay.

  • Hoy !

I’ve just acquired Injustice to read, and I was wondering whether I should start with the Injustice Annual (with Lobo and Harley Quinn) or straight into first chapter of Injustice year one !
    Cheers.
    TN.

  • Hi, Trevor, thank you for the list! Forgive me if my question is stupid but do I have to read Injustice: Gods Among Us Year 1-5 to understand Injustice 2, the ongoing series, at all? I can’t gets my hands on paperback trades where I live so I’m reading or downloading online. If they are unrelated or related, please let me know.

    Thank you.

    • Hi Yamin, Injustice 2 ties into the second video game so if you are playing that and are interested in the comics then you can read Injustice 2 and be okay.

  • This reading order is completely backward. First off, Injustice: Year One is the first in the Injustice Storyline taking place five years before the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game. Injustice: Year Five Vol. 3 is the comic book that leads into the game and Ground Zero should be read alongside or after playing the game. Then, finally, the Injustice 2 books and then the game. I know I kind of went on a rant, but people who want to read this in order shouldn’t be confused by this.

    • Hey Frank, you are totally right! I don’t how I stuffed that one up. I’ve updated the guide to reflect the correct reading order.
