This year marks the 40th year for the legendary comics anthology 2000 AD and over the decades, with more than 2000 issues, they have released hundreds of fantastic stories. Ranging from science fiction to fantasy to horror and everything in between, with a lot of Judge Dredd thrown in the mix, there’s a deep well of quality. The problem is that if you’re looking from the outside in it can be puzzling as to where to start or what stories to read. Luckily, the most recent episode of the 2000 AD Thrillcast is here to help!
The episode is all about recommending the stories you should read if you’re unfamiliar with this British institution. Over the space of about an hour and a half this episode gives dozens of reading recommendations from 2000 AD creators and staff. They recommend their favourite comics and stories, give some very helpful suggestions as to where to start reading and have a few laughs along the way.
Overall, it is a very handy podcast to listen to whether you’re a brand new to 2000 AD or have been a way from it for some time.
My tip for the listening to the podcast episode: have a pen ready to jot down some of the recommendations. They come thick and fast. When I was listening I had Google at the ready to find out more about the comics they were mentioning. By the end of it I had a nice little list of things I want to read and I’m sure by the end of it you will too.
As a companion to this podcast there’s also the 2000 AD 40th Anniversary Primer. It’s full of heaps of reading recommendations for some of their best known characters – including Judge Dredd, Zombo, Ro-Busters, Durham Red, Slaine and Nikolai Dante. It’s also littered with interviews, bios and other goodies to help you get started.
