Batman: Night of the Monster Men Reading Order Checklist

By 7 Comments

The very first crossover of the DC Rebirth era is upon us and it looks to be a spooky one. Batman: Night of the Monster Men is a crossover which will take over Batman, Nightwing and Detective Comics in September and October over the duration of 6 issues.

Classic Batman villain Hugo Strange has unleashed an army of Monster Men throughout Gotham City. Vicious and demented, these man-made creatures are after destruction by any means necessary. It will be up to Batman, Batwoman and Nightwing to stop these horrible beings from ripping the city apart.

Crossovers can be a bit confusing for new readers, especially if they’re only reading of the comics involved. As a result, I’ve put together the Batman: Night of the Monster Men Reading Order Checklist together to take the confusion out of reading this spooky crossover. Not only does it include the comics involved and their reading order I have also included other helpful information – including creative teams involved as well as the release dates.

Enjoy!

Batman #7 cover by Yanick Paquette.

Lead Up

There are hints to this story in Batman #2-6. At this stage, these issues don’t seem to be required reading if you only want to read this crossover. But, if you’re interested in reading some lead-up, as well as read some cool Batman comics, then they are worth checking out.

  • I’m really enjoying Rebirth, but I had to drop some series such as Nightwing & Detective Comics (due it would simply cost to much to collect all series). So right now only Batman from this 3 is in my pull-list. What do you think/recommend I should do?

    • Hey Yoshi! You’ll need to pick up Detective Comics and Nightwing if you’re interested in reading this story. Your options are picking up those issues just for this crossover, skipping the crossover or waiting for the trade paperback which should be cheaper than buying all the individual issues.

      • Hmm… Okay! Think I’m gonna pick up the other issues just for this crossover then (if I’m not too late already). Thanks for the reply, didn’t understand 100% how these crossovers actually work! Cheers!

    • Hey Vishwas, thanks for pointing this out. It’s just a typo and should read Detective Comics #942. I’ve updated the guide to fix this.

  • Yes, I’ll be reading them but mostly since all three series are already in pull list. If this was a six-part miniseries I wouldn’t get it because I’m not a fan of monster stories.
