The How to Love Comics Book Club is back for another month and with it comes a brand new book. I would like to welcome you to July’s book – Locke & Key Volume 1: Welcome To Lovecraft by writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez.
This supernatural horror comic is an award winning series, full of mystery and dangerous secrets. It’s also a fan favourite for many who have had the pleasure who have read it.
In the New England mansion known as Keyhouse, there are doors with the ability to transform anyone who walks through them. These wonderful doors will tempt members of the Locke family to find the keys that open them. Although there are wonderful doors in the mansion, there’s also horrible things too in the form of a hate-filled creature.
Locke and Key will be developed as a television series so this is the perfect to read the comic before it hits the silver screen.
While Lock & Key has run over multiple miniseries, well be focusing on the first one, which has been collected in one volume called Welcome To Lovecraft.
How Does Book Club Work?
For those who are new to the Book Club this is essentially how it works:
- I set a book to read on the last Wednesday of the month.
- Everyone then has about month to go out and read it.
- We all come back on the final Sunday of the following month and discuss the title in the comments and social media. (I will make a new post for the discussion)
When Will The Discussion Take Place?
Book Club discussions happen on the final Sunday of the month. July’s will take place on the 31st.
Don’t stress if you can’t make it in time as the discussion will be up on the website forever so you can join in at any time!
Where Can I Find Locke & Key Volume 1: Welcome To Lovecraft?
Comic Book Store
Find a copy at your local comic book store. If they don’t have a copy in stock ask them to order you one in. Usually it takes a week or two to get into the store.
Find at a library near you that has Locke & Key Volume 1: Welcome To Lovecraft available for loan.
Spread the News
Book Clubs are always more fun when there are more people involved. So why not tell your friends and family to join in? Better yet, let your local retailer know about this month’s Book Club as I am sure they wouldn’t mind spreading the word if it meant selling more copies.
If you want to talk about the Book Club or post any photos of you reading it please use the hashtag #HTLCBookClub on your favourite social media. I’ll monitor the hashtag and share anything cool I see.
For those who can’t wait till the end of the month, jump into June’s discussion. We talked about the Spider-Man classic – Kraven’s Last Hunt.
