In June DC Comics will be making a big splash when it comes to making comics that are new reader friendly. Not only will they have 24 new series, all of their existing comics will be starting new stories making it a great time to jump on. These new stories will feature a mixture of familiarity and something a little bit different than what DC was previously offering. To begin with, the publisher has created a greater push in taking characters in new directions – allowing for a greater variety of tone, themes and story. They have also given a greater push in a wider variety of voices behind the comics with a big push for more creators from different cultures, female creators and those with different perspectives on the world.
In order to get people excited with theses new comics, DC will be releasing 8-page original stories featuring these creators and characters of each series. These will give people a taste of what’s to come and help them decide if these comics appeal to them. The best thing about these are that they’re not snippets of the first issue, but original stories!
DC Comics will be releasing these short stories in batches each week with this week being the first. This week you can find preview stories for Detective Comics, Doomed, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Red Hood/Arsenal, Midnighter, Section Eight, The Omega Men, Prez and Starfire.

Doomed
Written by Scott Lobdell. Art by Javier Fernandez.
Doomed is a new series, which is sort of a Superman spin-off, that features a med student who has unfortunately been infected with spores which turn him into a “Doomsday-infected monster.” The series looks like it juggle his unfortunate situation with more everyday situatons.

Prez
Written by Mark Russell. Art by Ben Caldwell.
Prez is one of the new series which is a little out of left-field in comparison to what DC Comics usually does. It’s all about a teenage girl who becomes the president of the United State of America and decides to do things a little bit differently. In this original sneak peek you’ll see that there is plenty of action and humour mixed together.

Section Eight
Written by Garth Ennis. Art by John McCrea.
Out of all the stories featured here this has got to be the strangest. Spinning out of Hitman, although in a way that’s new reader friendly, is the reintroduction of Section Eight – a group of the most warped heroes around. If you like your comics a little bit strange then this might be to your liking.

Starfire
Written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti. Art by Emanuela Lupacchino.
After leaving her renegade team, The Outlaws, Starfire consults with other heroes as to where she should live in this lighthearted story.

The Omega Men
Written by Tom King. Art by Barnaby Bagenda.
Finally, we have The Omega Men in which we see the alien team holding a high profile character hostage. What happens at the end of this story will create the basis of the series going on. I can assume they are going to be some of the most wanted criminals in the galaxy.
