With the Ant-Man movie hitting cinemas in July there has never been more talk about the character before in his history. Luckily there is a new comic to jump on for anyone who wants a taste before it’s release. Written by Nick Spencer and art by Ramon Rosanas Ant-Man is a new ongoing series, which sees the current shrinker try to become a hero in the eyes of everyone.
For those who are unfamiliar with Scott Lang’s back-story, he is not the first Ant-Man. He’s the second person to be known as Ant-Man and definitely the least liked of them. This is due to his troubled history and his abuse of the shrinking abilities that he holds. He has spent time in prison and since then has been trying to become a respected hero.

In this new series, there is a big focus on redeeming himself in the eyes of others in the Marvel Universe. He gets this chance with a proposal from Tony Stark, which will force him to show his worth an prove to him that reliable, but a changed man.
And there is no better team to take on this series than Nick Spencer and Ramon Rosanas. Spencer, who has written stories about Marvel criminals, in Superior Foes of Spider-Man, and science-fiction is a perfect fit for this series. With his proven experience, we should get some cool ideas, but also experience smaller moments which show great character development. In the art department, Rosanas is a great candidate. Best known for his work on Night of the Living Deadpool, his art is clean and expressive. Looking at the preview alone, he has been able to make a walking conversation between two characters look interesting. That’s no easy feat!
If you are looking for an Ant-Man story to read leading up the movie in July (and beyond) this new Ant-Man series is a great place to start.
Ant-Man #1 is available in all good comic book stores from January 7th.
Take a look at three pages from this issue as well as a slew of variant covers by Skottie Young, Chris Samnee, Jason Pearson and Ed McGuinness.
