Back in Uncanny Avengers #1 The Red Skull stole the brain of the recently deceased Professor X, implanted it into his head and his used the psychic abilities to transmit hate against the mutant race. While a team of Avengers and X-Men were able to stop him and he hasn’t really been since. While it has only been hinted at, The Red Skull will return bigger and more powerful than before in Avengers & X-Men: AXIS, Marvel’s next big event. Said to have a huge cast of heroes and villains, Avengers & X-Men: AXIS will also see some heroes will become villains and vice versa. Overall, Marvel has promised that the effects of this event will be long-lasting.
While Avengers & X-Men: AXIS is primarily 9 issues, there are also a sea of tie-ins. Some will be mini-series, others will be special issues from ongoing titles. Not every ongoing title will be involved, just mostly those staring characters who are directly involved in the AXIS.
With the number of tie-ins that are involved it can be very difficult to keep up with them all – even for a seasoned reader like myself. So in order to make things as simple as possible, I have made the Avengers & X-Men: AXIS reading order checklist. This checklist includes all the releases that will be involved in this Marvel event, along with all the dates of release and the creative teams involved.
Avengers & X-Men: AXIS kicks off in October, but in September there will be a handful of tie-ins branded “The Road to AXIS.” This will act as preludes that set up plot threads for the primary issues. Wile they are not essential reading they will probably give further context to the story. Additionally, most of the tie-ins are not essential reading and you should be fine reading the major 9 issue on its own. BUT, if you want to know what is happening with a certain character or what is happening at the same time the tie-ins are worth checking out.
Additionally, I have included Superior Iron Man #1 to the list as while it is not a tie-in to AXIS it seems that the series will be spin out what has happened in the event.
This will be updated as more information is revealed.

Post-AXIS
So, what should you read after AXIS? Marvel relaunched Uncanny Avengers in 2015. The series consists of a new line-up and kicks off with a story which deals with some of the consequences of AXIS.
Will You Be Reading Avengers & X-Men: AXIS?

Previous Marvel Reading Order: Death of Wolverine
Next Marvel Reading Order: Spider-Man: Spider-Verse
All New X-Factor #18 doesn’t have the “Axis” banner….is it really part of this event?
Hi Chris, I had a look at the solicitation for All-New X-Factor and it appears that it has been noted as a tie-in. It might have been a mistake on Marvel’s side by not including the AXIS banner.
Thank you for the list, it’s really useful.
Thank you very much for your work with reading orders, I also used your Axis list too. For completionists like myself these lists are a godsend! Keep up the good work!
Hi Trevor,
I bought Superior Iron Man 2 in case it relates to AXIS. Where in the list would you suggest reading it, if at all? Right After Superior #1?
Thanks!
Avengers & X-Men Axis #7 is now releasing Dec 10th, but Axis Revolutions #3 and All New X-Factor #17 came out today (Dec 3rd)
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Don’t know if I just read further or wait till the 10th.
🙂
Captain and the Mighty Avengers #1 appears twice on this list … I was guessing you meant #2? … Great Job, I appreciate your hard work.
Thanks for letting me know! I am glad you are digging the reading order.
Does this series impact the X-Men timeline (the one mostly featuring the female X-Men?)
While it might impact the X-Men franchise coming out of this event (although future solicitations don’t point to anything major) it appears that the X-titles including X-Men should be business as usual.
Hi, thanks for your list, I’m reading all the comics in this series. But I have notice that you put that on 5 November there will be “AXIS: Hobgoblin #2” and “Captain America & The Mighty Avengers #1” but I can’t find these comics anywhere and even the marvel website doesn’t mention them! Can you help me with that?
Thank you.
Hi Zaher, I did a bit of research and it appears those two issues have been delayed a week. They both should be out of the 12th of November. I’ve updated the reading order checklist to reflect these new dates.
I’m reading it, thanks!
definitely, gonna read it.
THANKS for the list. I will be reading this.
