In recent years Marvel has conscientiously been making an effort to give their comics a unique voice, that separates that comic from the rest of the comics they are publishing. This can be seen in comics such as Daredevil, Hawkeye and even last week’s Ms. Marvel. The latest of these unique comics is She-Hulk, which sees Jennifer Walters open her own law practice. The series will be written by rising star (and hot in demand) Charles Soule, with art by Javier Pulido.
For those who are not familiar with She-Hulk she is a cousin to Bruce Banner (The Incredible Hulk), but unlike him, she doesn’t go into a rampage. Receiving her Hulk abilities through a blood transfusion, from blood kindly donated to by Bruce Banner, she has all the powers of the Hulk but has kept her sanity and intelligence. She is a smart, strong (and not just because she is a hulk), confident and independent woman, which is evident in the preview below.
She-Hulk will see Jennifer Walters juggle responsibilities from opening her own law practice to being a superhero. The series will include legal drama as she takes on a variety of weird cases, but will also see her in an investigative role as tries to find important evidence. Throw in some super heroics and Jen will be having a busy life. Charles Soule has told CBR that most cases will be contained to an issue or two, with the ongoing narrative revolving around Jen’s life. While the opening few issues will be establishing the series status quo, expect to see some guest stars from all over the Marvel Universe.
Charles Soule is a writer you should be looking out for, being in hot demand at a variety of publishers. Not only that but Charles Soule is a practising lawyer, so you will know the lawyer aspect of She-Hulk will have a degree of accuracy. I have a feeling that She-Hulk is the series that will push him further into the spotlight.
