Known as “The Merc with a Mouth”, Deadpool has had many odd adventures during his many years of publication. Although, in this time he has never had to deal with the zombie apocalypse. Well, thanks to Cullen Bunn and Ramon Rosanas he will with Night of the Living Deadpool – the new four-part miniseries starting this week.
Night of the Living Deadpool begins with our unlikely hero waking up from a food coma to find himself in a world overthrown by zombies. As to what kinds of situations Deadpool will get him into, it is safe to say that they will be on the crazy side. In an interview with Hitfix, Cullen Bunn said he will take many of the classic zombie tropes and turn them on their head. This should work quite well with a comedic character like Deadpool and should create some great comedy.
For those who are unfamiliar with Deadpool, he definitely is an odd guy. The best way to describe him would be as a mentally unstable mercenary, who has a healing factor to rival Wolverine. Due to his instability, he will often say odd things, act in an unconventional manner and has been known to “break the fourth wall”. All of these are used to comedic effect and has made him Marvel’s most popular comedic character.
The series is presented in black and white, with the only colour coming from Deadpool. This is an interesting choice by Ramon Rosanas, who is clearly using the limited colour palette to pay homage to Night of the Living Dead. Also, by having Deadpool in coloured in a black and white world shows that he is a colourful character in a world of horror.
Night of the Living Deadpool #1 is available in comic stores and digitally from January 15th.
