BOOM! Studios has roughly had the Adventure Time licence for the past two years and has been kicking goals with it. By using artists and writers predominantly from the webcomics scene they have been able to create a comics that capture the television show’s odd brand of humour and sense of adventure. Beginning this week is Adventure Time: The Flip Side, a new miniseries by Paul Tobin, Colleen Coover and Wook Jin Clark that looks to continue the craziness.
The story starts with Finn and Jake bored and looking for a quest. So where do you find quest? The Adventurer’s Posting Board, of course. Although, one of these quests may end them up in a spot of bother when they end up switching bodies. Paul Tobin has stated that he plans to turn the classic Freaky Friday trope on its head and offer us something we haven’t seen before. It will be interesting to see where this idea is taken. As a fan of the show, I would assume that Finn will take full advantage of being in Jake’s body and this could easily cause some problems.

Writing this 6 part series Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover who are the creative team behind the award winning series Bandette. Based upon this I have faith that they will be able to create a fun story that is suitable for all ages.
The art, as see below, by Wook Jin Clark is an interesting style. It is a looser style than the TV show but I believe it works to its advantage. By being different to the show it allows for the series to create its own unique mark. This will allow the comic not to become a blur in all the other Adventure Time media that is available.
Adventure Time: The Flip Side #1 is available in comic stores and digitally from January 8th.
