PREVIEW: Black Science #1 by Rick Remender and Matteo Scalera

By 0 Comments

In the past two years Image Comics has gone from strength to strength by attracting high profile creators, with stellar results. This time around they have been able to attract superstar Marvel writer Rick Remender (Uncanny X-Force, Secret Avengers, Captain America) back for his first project at Image in 3 years. The result being Black Science.

Black Science is high concept science fiction with a dark edge. It is also a series about choices and consequences of those actions. After deciphering the Black Science, Grant McKay has punched a hole through reality. But with doing so he has created chaos with him and his group now trapped in an infinite series of alien world. They must now make even harder choices if they want to find their way home.

To me the series feels like it will be a good mixture of Lost in Space and Sliders, with plenty of crazy high-concept science fiction. The series has also been slated as being a spiritual sequel to Fear Agent, the series that originally rose Rick Remender to notice.

The artwork by Matteo Scalera is a painted style that harks back to classic science fiction covers. The darker colours, by Dean White, mixed with the vibrant purples crackling in the sky look fantastic. From what has been shown in the preview they have been able to create a world that is truly alien.

Black Science #1 is available in all good comic book stores and digitally on November 27th.

Take a look at the cover by Andrew Robinson, along with the variant cover by Rafael Albuquerque and a four page preview.
