Many people will be familiar with Gerard Way for being the singer in the band My Chemical Romance, but you might not know that he is a respected comic book writer. His Umbrella Academy was award-winning and acclaimed by critics and fan alike. This week sees him release his new comic series The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys on Dark Horse Comics.
A follow-up to the final My Chemical Romance album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, this comic is set years after the events of the album. In the past, the Killjoys fought against the tyrannical megacorporation Better Living Industries, in which all of them died except a young girl. Years later, this mysterious young girl has to decide if she joins the followers of the original Killjoys to take on Better Living Industries or join the mindless ranks of Bat City.
Joining Gerard Way will be co-writer Shaun Simon and artist Becky Cloonan, which as you can see in the preview below has done a fantastic job.
Being set years after the events of the My Chemical Romance album means that you don’t that you do not need to have listened to the album to understand the events of the comic. Although if you want to listen to the album you can so here.
The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys #1 is out 12th of June in all good comic book stores and digitally through the Dark Horse Comics Digital.
Take a peek at the variant covers by Becky Cloonan, Gabriel Ba and Gerard Way as well as a preview of the upcoming comic series.
