After 3 years hiatus Astro City returns at the new home of Vertigo Comics. Although it has been published on and off since 1995, Astro City has been able to stay fresh by taking the superhero/supervillain archetypes but setting them in the one city (Astro City) and making the characters personable. What would their lives be like and how would everyone in the city be effected?
Writer Kurt Busiek (Superman and Avengers), artist Brent Anderson (Phantom Stranger) and cover artist/character designer Alex Ross (Kingdom Come) all return for the series. Hopefully with this classic team they will be able to capture the magic that has won them many awards and adoration from both fans and critics.
The series will be ongoing and will continue the natural progression of the series, although Kurt Busiek has mentioned that Astro City #1 will be a jumping on point for anyone who hasn’t read the series before. Many characters will return but we will also see many new characters, of which you can see in the preview below.
Astro City #1 is on sale on the 5th of May in all good comic book stores and digitally through Comixology.
If Astro City interests take a look at the two fantastic covers by Alex Ross as well as a preview courtesy of USA Today.
