PREVIEW: The Kingpin Literally Runs New York In 'Daredevil #595'

Whether it be in comics or the excellent Netflix series, the Kingpin, aka Wilson Fisk, is know for ruling the criminal underworld of New York City. Although, Marvel has decided that is not enough and through legitimate means the Kingpin has become the Mayor of the city. How this has happened will be revealed in Charles Soule and Stefano Landini’s Daredevil #595 with a story called ‘Mayor Fisk’.

Daredevil #595 is part of Marvel’s latest publishing initiative, Marvel Legacy. Legacy’s mission is to take the new things that they’ve built in the past few years and combine them with classic concepts to create something familiar, but fresh. The result is a big batch of new stories which new readers and those who’ve been away from Marvel can jump on and get excited about.

The Kingpin is mayor of New York City?! You read that correctly. Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, can’t believe it either and it’ll take both idenities, crime-fighter and lawyer, to fight Fisk and the legitimacy of his rise to power.

Here’s what writer Charles Soule has to say about the story:

“On page 1 of the story, Wilson Fisk has already become the mayor, with all of the power and resources that come with the position. So, Daredevil has lost the one thing he thought he could always rely on, the place he was sworn to protect: New York City. From there, we see how, and if, he can fight to win it back.”

Marvel have also mentioned that the Kingpin being mayor will be felt in other comics. It’ll create a sense of connectivity with other books, but it shouldn’t be a slave to it.

Eagle-eyed reader might have noticed that this is the 595th issue of Daredevil, but don’t worry about that. Daredevil #595 is designed to be a great starting point with this brand new story. It doesn’t matter if this is your very first issue of Daredevil, you haven’t read it in a while or are a regular reader, you’ll be able to pick this comic up and enjoy it.

Daredevil #595 is available at all good comic book stores and digitally from November 8th.
